Nishit Sangomla, India

I am a chemical engineer in my area of study and a development professional in my area of work. Over the last six years, I have worked extensively at the grassroots of India, to understand, empathise and contribute to the positive change in people's lives and economy. I started working with artisan communities to generate livelihoods but soon realised the interconnectedness between the different SDGs. The interconnectedness of crafts to culture, history, livelihoods, economy, environment, climate change and to education inspires me to keep working to understand the sector better and work on building an all-inclusive organization.

We offer design and business education for artisans using an approach based on honoring and incorporating existing traditions and teaching a spectrum of others about rural traditions. The institution's curricula, schedule, and language of instruction are designed to accommodate the lifestyles of its artisans. The only prerequisite for admission is knowledge of traditional crafts. We have had over 200 graduates from the course so far
