Derrick Opio, Uganda

Derrick Hosea Opio is a social entrepreneur born in Uganda, East Africa and the founder of OneLamp; a clean energy enterprise. He is passionate about providing world’s deprived and underserved communities access to modern clean energy, global democracy and social entrepreneurship. He is an Alumni Fellow of the Halcyon incubator, DO School NYC Sustainable Cup Challenge and a 2015 Associate Fellow of the Royal Commonwealth Society. With a background in LLB and Bsc Accounting & Financial Management, Derrick has experience cutting across Strategic Financial Planning, managing budgets, marketing and distribution strategy, business modelling and risk assessment.

OneLamp provides off-grid small medium enterprises and households in Uganda access to productive solar energy solutions through an affordable, mobile-enabled, prepaid lease-to-own model. This unlocks affordability through the removal of the upfront price barrier of large solar systems by enabling customers to pre-pay for energy over time using secure mobile money.
